Where should you stay in Rome, Italy, with the family? What are the best places, neighborhoods, and hotels for families in Rome? Here are tips for finding the best hotels and apartments in Rome with family.
If you visit Rome with children, look at our article:Â Rome with the family.
In which neighborhood to stay in Rome?
The most central district of Rome is the one that includes the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, and Trevi Fountain. It’s the ideal place to stay as a family to visit Rome on foot.
The Pantheon is the tourist heart of Rome. If you go further towards the Tiber’s banks or the Castel Sant’Angelo, it’s just as central but a little bit calmer.
You can also stay near the Rome Termini Station, but always towards the historic center, without going too far. The Leonardo Express train stops at this station, taking you to and from Fiumicino airport. Staying in Rome near the Termini Station is highly convenient for arrival and departure.
Which neighborhoods should be avoided in Rome for a family stay? We do not recommend staying near the Colosseum for families. The Trastevere district is beautiful to visit (on our top list with the Janiculum Hill viewpoint), but it’s far from other places.
Best hotels for families in Rome
We chose a hotel near Termini Station for convenience but not too far from the historic center to do everything on foot. It was the Hotel Barberini. We had an excellent stay. Perhaps we could have been even closer to the center. Otherwise, no complaints.
We also found other hotels that were very well located and even better located, but we prioritized proximity to the station. Here are the hotels for families in Rome:\
- Rhea Silvia Luxury Navona: this hotel is directly on Piazza Navona!
- The Bluehostel is another hotel not far from Termini Station.
- Hotel Trevi: the location is incredible, right next to the Trevi Fountain.
- Charming Suites Navona: It’s like a lovely loft for staying in Rome with family.
Best apartments for staying in Rome with family
We had to leave early in the morning, so we chose a hotel. But we hesitated because the two apartments we found looked lovely.
The first one is Veneto Holidays. It’s very spacious and is in a building with a beautiful entrance. For a 5-night stay, we would have chosen this one.
The second is NAMAN HOTELLERIE, which is close to Piazza di Spagna. It’s very well located for discovering Rome with children on foot, but in this case, we would have taken a taxi from the airport. The public transport journey would not have been convenient.
As Rome is a city that can be visited in 4-5 days or more, booking an apartment might be better than staying at a hotel. In any case, for extended stays, we often prefer apartments. Staying in Rome with family is the most considerable expense of the whole trip, but a central location is well worth it: visiting Rome on foot is excellent!
